Are we gullible in Liberia? Same Old scheme, but different characters? Yesterday, the Liberian First Lady Mrs. Clar Weah told her Detractors “No Amount of Negative Criticisms Will Stop Me. “ She was referring to the ongoing work being done by the Clar Weah Foundation.
How long will President Weah’s Wife Clar Foundation last? Historically, we saw the Charles Taylor foundation when he was in office as well. We also saw the Robert Sirleaf Foundation when his Mom, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was in office. Where are these foundations today?
Presently, we are seeing Mrs. Clar Weah foundation which was established after her husband became President. Did you see Clar Weah foundation when her Husband was in the opposition or when he was a footballer plying his trade in Europe? I strongly believe the Clar Weah Foundation is just another means to justify the insane amount of US$1.5 million allocated in our national budget for “Humanitarian Outreach” to the President’s wife. Clar Weah 3 years ago couldn’t even meet her commitment to paying property taxes in Florida and out of sudden have a foundation and doing humanitarian work. How?
Are we gullible? We quick to forget? Have we not seen Robert Sirleaf, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s favorite son founded the so-called Robert Sirleaf foundation, in his justifications of spending US$10.5 million from the Chevron-Liberia Economic Development Initiative (C-LED) given to National Oil Company of Liberia’s (NOCAL) social development program? Did you know these funds, established through the Chevron-Liberia Economic Development Initiative (C-LED), were intended to deliver 80 projects focused on enterprise development, health and education across the 15 counties for social and economic benefits for women, children, and youth? Did Robert Sirleaf Foundation achieve such? Sadly, the Sustainable Development Initiative (SDI) report on Liberia revealed then, that President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf relaxed some the established protocols, and that her son, Robert Sirleaf, through the National Oil Company of Liberia’s (NOCAL) social development programs and his (Robert’s) own foundation, might have misappropriated over US$10 million from Chevron-Liberia.
Again, I asked where is the Charles Taylor or Robert Sirleaf’s foundation today? For me, the Clar Weah Foundation durability depends on how long her husband stays in power. It is just a matter of time before the Clar Weah’s foundation disappear. The Clar Weah’s foundation will end as her husband’s presidency ends. Same old script, different actors. This too is Liberia.
