Three Political Parties Reject The Koffa Commission

PRESS STATEMENT OF 3 POLITICAL PARTIES ON THE GLOBAL WITNESS REPORT 0N LIBERIA

We, the National Patriotic Party, the All Liberian Party and the Liberia People Democratic Party, consider as grave the Global Witness report released May 11, 2016 in which it is alleged that the President and other officials of the Government of Liberia were amongst those involved in a SCAM to readjust the PPCC’s act to enable Sable Mining acquire Wologizi Mountain without tender process. This report further alleges that the Unity Party Chairman, Cllr. Varney Sherman received a total of USD958,668.00 from Sable Mining to bribe key officials of government to execute the plan and assist Unity Party achieve targeted results at its 2010 convention.

We believe these allegations require a full, impartial and transparent investigation which should be carried out by independent Liberians with no ties to government.

In view thereof, we consider the President’s appointment of her staff, Cllr. Fonati Koffa and other confidants to investigate the Global Witness report a SHAM, and therefore considered unacceptable.

We therefore call on the National Legislature to immediately appoint a board of Independent Liberians outside of government with subpoena powers to investigate the Global Witness report.
