Liberia will move on to the next round of its world cup qualifying campaign to meet the Elephants of Ivory Coast having dismissed Guinea Bissau at home on Tuesday night, October 13th, to progress to the next round of 2018 World Cup qualifying. The first leg ended 1-1 in Monrovia, a week ago, with Jerbo also scoring from the spot.

Liberia was all business from the get go, when William Jerbo who plays in Spain for SD Ponferradina, scored in the 8th minute before adding his second in the 12th. The African Wild Dogs will look back at the game as a lost opportunity, because all they needed was draw [0-0, or 1-1], as they defended home turf. Guinea Bissau is placed 147 in the latest Fifa World Rankings, while Liberia is ranked 95th on the same index, having moved up 65 places when the Lone Stars shocked the Cartage Eagles of Tunisia at home a month ago to lied 3rd in the afcons qualifications league table, in its group that includes Togo, Tunisia and Djibouti.

The score line stood at 2-1 before the half time whistle, when Ibraime Cassame, pulled one for the home side in the 43rd.

But that wasn’t enough, as the damage had already been done, because, still a 2-2 draw would have seen the tri colors going through, as they were not done yet.

The away win will certainly boost the morale of Coach James Debbah and company as they meet the more fancied Elephants, with its parade of top notch star players on first teams in the European league.

After notable string of loses in which the Liberia Lone Stars went with no wins from 27 away games, securing only one draw, scoring 15 goals and conceding 78, this win certainly is for the history books in that the jinx is broken to much needed relief.

Liberia axed its key player Francis Doe before the Bissau match for indiscipline, and Swedish based Dioh Williams of Gefle IF filled the void as a striking and play maker partner to William Jerbo, who did not disappoint, as he scored his third [96 min] in injury time for his first hat trick to the national team. Jerbo is now up five goals from three matches for the Stars.
