Liberia Vs. Togo: Lone Stars Lost in Lome 2-1

Liberian Listener Staff Report

The Lone Stars of Liberia failed to hold on to its lead when the Sparrow Hawks of Togo came from behind on Sunday in the Afcons qualifier to spoil the party, when Emmanuel Adebayo double Togo’s lead in an 87th minute strike, as the home side snatched a 2-1 win from the jaws of the stars at the Stade de Kégué in Lome.

The Liberian defense and midfield broke down with five minutes to go including injury time, by failing to salvage a 1-1 draw, when the Tottenham Hotspurs striker silenced the visitors in the dying embers of the game.

The Lone Stars had hard time playing on and off the ball often losing possessions and failing to dominate the midfield, which left their strikers exposed hence denying them limited opportunities to trouble the hawks goal mouth. The hawks equalized in the 63 minute through Sadate Ouro-Akoriko who plays for AmaZulu in the South African league.

Liberian coach James Debbah employed a 4-1-4-1 formation.

Liberia took the lead with 3 minutes before half time when William Jebor, who captained the team and plays for Portuguese side Rio Ave put the visitors ahead.
