Liberia Lone Stars winger Oliseh is back and ready

Liberian Listener Staff Report

Former CSKA Moscow winger Sekou Jabateh Oliseh is back with the national team of Liberia to face the Hawks of Togo, in a tough game that will see Frenchman and veteran coach Claude Le Roy in charge as the two West African countries butt heads in Monrovia, at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium. Jabateh had been previously overlooked because he was without a professional contract.

A constant feature for the national outfit he was briefly axed as he was not playing and attached, having been on loan since 2013, and briefly returning to Russia where he was a team mate to Nigeria Super Eagles’ captain Ahmed Musa at CSKA Moscow. Jabateh skills are not in denial, but his critics say he has been goal shy and have found the net less often then he should, giving what he brings to the field of play and to his coaches. The talented winger just won the Romanian championship with FC Astra, having signed with the team last year. The veteran Lone Stars’ player will be much needed against a Togolese team that has deadly striker Emmanuel Adebayo in the fold.

Oliseh last featured for the Lone Stars in June 2014 when Liberia lost 2-0 away to Lesotho in the afcons qualifiers. Having left the shores of Russia where he play the most of his professional career, rumors swirled last year that he was expected to play in the Gulf state of Qatar, before he was snatched up and signed with FC Astra, and then claiming the Romanian league cup last month. In the Togo games his skills will be on display as he is expected to play a major role, given his experience, pace, dribbling techniques and his appetite for goals. In 15 appearances he has scored twice for his country. Jabateh began playing professionally for CSKA Moscow in 2009 and made UEFA Champions League debut that same year.

Also recalled to the national team, is Francis Doe, whose critical goal against Tunisia saw Debbah winning his first competitive international game at home to much needed relief, given the criticism which attended his appointment. Also back with the Lone Stars will be winger Tonia Tisdell, who will be making his debut under James Debbah. Tisdell who features in Turkey have always been an important piece of the team’s puzzle, but have yet to play, since Debbah was appointed.
