South African based Sundowns goal puncher Anthony Laffor 65th minute goal was all Liberia needed to dismiss Djibouti at home, as the red, white and blue outfit claimed all three points in the ongoing Afcons qualifier on match day, the 24th of March. The former Lone Stars’ captain arrived early Thursday morning, barely 10hrs before hostilities began and still managed to produce the magic.
The Stars were unimpressive during the first half, but found a spark with the introduction of Kpah Sherman and midfielder Dulee Johnson during the second stanza, with both making their first entry since Coach Debbah was appointed national team coach.
Liberia has two wins from three games, having previously beaten Tunisia at home in a hard fought 1-0 win, with the victory coming through a Francis Doe 79 minute header. Liberia’s first win under Debbah, before an away 3-1 hammering of Guinea Bissau.
The win has positioned Liberia at the top of Group A, pending the outcome of the match this weekend with Togo and Tunisia, two teams pundits say are favourites in a group in which Liberia and Djibouti are considered minnows. The return leg is expected to be played at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium on March 29 in Monrovia.
