“Ellen Dishes Out US$16,780 to 750 Graduates”

The Editor,

I mean no disrespect to the President, but whose money is she dishing out like that? Is it her own money or da other people’s money? Re: “Ellen Dishes Out US$16,780 to 750 Graduates.”

The great economist, Milton Friedman, taught us that there are four ways to spend money: 1) spending your own money on yourself, 2) spending your own money on somebody else, 3) spending other people’s money on yourself (hint: Nocal executives!) and 4) spending other people’s money on somebody else! (hint: CBL’s micro-finance program)

Look, I don’t have a problem with the President spending her own money on herself (see #1) or on other people (see #2). If she wants to give US$17,000 of her own money to government school graduates, that’s fine with me (see #2). I applaud her generosity.

But I do have a BIG problem with her being generous with other people’s money on somebody else (see #4)!

Why? Because #4 is the most wasteful type of spending-which is, spending other people’s money on somebody else! After all, da government money–who cares! That’s why so much public money is stolen and wasted by government officials!

So I have a strong suspicion that that Madame Sirleaf didn’t spend US$17,000 of own money as a token of her appreciation to the graduates for their achievements! You think that Gola woman (Madame Sirleaf) will spend her own money like that? Please…
