Lone Stars: George Weah Junior Named In Coach Debbah Final 23

Liberian Coach James Debbah finally named his 23 man squad this week to face the Hawks of Togo, in a few weeks away in Lome.

Most of his previously named 60 man squad according to the Liberian FA, was a provisional squad, and as was speculated widely, Spanish Born, Liberian-Ghanaian, Atletico Bilbao talisman, Inaki Williams will not be present, and this was confirmed by FA President Musa Bility in a frontpageafrica.com interview few days ago.

He said efforts were being made to send George Weah to meet Inaki. Hence much of the load to lead attack will now fall to dribbler Sekou Oliseh Jabateh, Ironman William Jerbo, and skipper Anthony Laffor.

James Debbah is yet to name the team captain, but it is most likely, that still could be Sundowns South African forward, Anthony Laffor. George Weah Junior, made the cut, perhaps a national team appearance will boast and revive his flagging career. It is believed he has talents but has not found the sparks just yet.

The Liberian national team the Lone Stars, left for Ghana today, in preparation for the cracker with Togo. The Lone Stars and the Liberian FA are yet to announce a friendly. It is possible a friendly could be named in the coming days, but according to a LFA source, the chances were slim. Left out were Francis Doe, Dioh Williams and Patrick Wleh. Past candidates that were regulars.

James Salinsa Debbah named 21 foreign professionals and 2 local players. In preparation of the fireworks that Togo expects with the Lone Stars of Liberia in the coming weeks; the Hawks of Togo will play neighbor’s, Ghana Black Stars on June 7th in Accra, with Israeli trainer Avram Grant and Belgian coach Tom Saintfiet meeting heads on for the first time.

James Debbah has promised his team will “be disciplined” in a BBC report and that it will also “play effective and attractive football,” in an UNMIL radio interview in Monrovia three weeks ago. The team is on a weeklong training in Accra.

In addition to George Weah jr, new entries include Alex Nimley who features in England, and Sekou Conneh who plays in the Netherlands. Liberia Lone Stars under James Debbah begins a new era. Either he will succeed with the Lone Stars and the selection he has picked, or like the rest of the coaches who came and went, he might soon find himself without the prestigious Lone Stars job. The match is billed for June 13, 2015, at Stade de Kégué in Lome.
