The Assemblies of God Liberia, Inc., on Sunday concluded its 16th Biennial General Assembly in Ganta, Nimba County with the election of Rev. Dr. Edwin A. Gbelly as its new General Superintendent.

Rev. Gbelly, Senior Pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Central Monrovia, was elected along with other senior pastors of other A.G. Churches to steer the affairs of the Church for four years according to the A.G.L Constitution.

Other Pastors elected were Zion A.G. Church Senior Pastor, Rev. Abenda Tamba, Assistant General Superintendent; 24th Street A.G. Church Senior Pastor, Rev. Emmanuel Zabay, National General Secretary; New Jerusalem A.G. Senior Pastor, Rev. Eric Targbeh, National Treasurer and First A.G. Church in Bardnersville, Senior    Pastor, Rev. David Gwole, as National Advisor.

The outgoing General Superintendent of the AGL, Inc., Rev. Dr. Jimmy B. Kuoh announced on February 22, 2014 as the induction ceremony of all elected and appointed officials, at the Sinkor A.G Church, near Catholic Junction.

The almost 10-hour long elections, which started at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, were conducted by Rev. Gaylord Brown, the incoming Representative of the A.G.-United States of America to Liberia.

Shortly before the results were announced, Rev. Brown assured the over 500 delegates, observers as well as other worshippers that God gives recognition to only those who work with a humble spirit, and so he urged them to work with a servant’s heart.

The five-day convention took place under the theme “Empowered to Witness”, with text drawn from “Acts 1:8”. At the convention, operational reports from all of the A.G Districts throughout the country were presented and discussed.

Shortly after his election, Rev. Gbelly commended the delegates for entrusting him to lead the church, and also congratulated the missionaries who brought the gospel to Africa during which they impacted knowledge.

The newly elected General Superintendent assured the Assembly that, with their support and cooperation, the new leadership will work hard in moving the church forward.

In another development, the outgoing General Superintendent, Rev. Kuoh has applauded the church for making the convention a historic one.

“LAG has made history to be remembered. This Church has been under series of attacks, but with the power of the Holy Spirit, we have overcome these problems and the faces of our enemies are now bent in shame,” Rev. Kuoh pointed out.

Rev. Kuoh expressed satisfaction for the level of maturity and unity the church has exhibited during his term in office, adding, “I am glad that I am leaving the church united.”

The West Africa Director for the AG World Mission, Rev. Randy Tarr, who served as Speaker during the convention, stressed the need for the growth of the Church throughout Africa by sending out more missionaries into the field.

The Convention Speaker, who hails from the United States of America, reiterated that God honors those who honor Him.

Rev. Tarr spoke briefly from Phil. 4:10-20 on Sunday and reminded the church that in the Kingdom of God, everyone must be able to see beyond their natural eyes, because there are people who are in dire need who are yet to be reached out to by the church.
