President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has signed the 2013/14 National Budget of US$581 million.
Presidential spokesman, Jerolinmek Piah, in an interview with the New Dawn said Monday in Monrovia the Liberian capital.
The Liberian Legislature and President Sirleaf were unable to reach a consensus on the document, thereby delaying the passage and signing of the budget on time, according to sources.
President Sirleaf signed the budget when she returned from the south eastern region, in Grand Gedeh County, after a meeting with Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara. Said Piah when quizzed what led to the delayed in signing the budget, “All I can tell you is the budget has been signed; I cannot say anything beyond this point.”
President Sirleaf, reports say complained that the budget as was presented to her by the legislature was unacceptable in its current form, up until the signing. The Executive Mansion did not say what compromises were made. Major contributors to the 2013-2014 fiscal budgets included the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), in the tune of 8million dollars.
